Halloween Graveyard Scene from Basswood Scraps

I always save my scraps when I cut out a roughout on my bandsaw or scroll saw. I throw my scraps in a kitchen type garbage can out in the garage for use when I need a small or odd shaped piece. For this project I set out to see if I could create a project just using my scraps. If you are new to wood carving you might want to first check out the post about the 5 basic cuts of wood carving.

The elements of this Halloween Graveyard Scene from Basswood Scraps are 3 Tombstones 1 with a fresh grave. 2 Bats with 1 hanging from a tree branch and 1 resting on the top of a tombstone. I also have a ghost boy, a mummy boy, a witch with a broomstick and a cauldron. The base materials can be purchased from Amazon here a moss mat and the basswood base 11 x 14

Just use spray glue and mount the moss on the basswood base. I found a branch for the tree from my yard and drilled a small hole in the base gluing the tree to the base.

I started with the Bats one of them I wanted to hang from a tree and the other bat I wanted outstretched wings. I have a small pattern I used or you can draw your own. I have close-up pictures for reference of all the pieces and you can see these here in the gallery.

For the Witch I basically created from the Bob’s simple santa design only I left off the arms. You should be able to carve all these elements of the Halloween Graveyard Scene as they are all simple beginner carving projects.

So have fun and if you create this project post it to my Facebook page here.
